ELIGIBILITY
Federal TRIO Regulations require that students must have completed the 8th grade, be between the ages of 13 and 19 and have a need for academic support in order to pursue a program of post-secondary education. All students must be either from low-income families and/or be potential first-generation college students. The program requires that two-thirds of the participants in a project must be both low-income and potential first-generation college students. The remaining one-third must be either low-income or potential first-generation college students.
To be eligible to apply to the SUNY Buffalo State Upward Bound program, students must meet at least one or both, of the federal requirements:
Low-income household - Current Low Income Levels - effective January 24, 2014 Until Further Notice
Potential first generation college student (neither parent has a four-year college degree)
In addition, all prospective applicants must meet the following:
MUST be attending any of the following target Buffalo Public Schools:
-East High School
-Lafayette High School
-McKinley High School
Be a citizen or national of the United States, permanent resident of the United States or is in the United States for other than a temporary purpose and provides evidence of intent to become a permanent resident.
Receive a recommendation from their high school counselor or a teacher.
Meet the federal criteria based on family's taxable income and/or parent's educational background.
Complete an application and Interview
Demonstrate academic need.
